UroMed Partners with PatientPoint and Cure Medical to Provide Exam Room Education Materials

Beginning November 1st, thousands of urology offices around the country will offer valuable patient education material from UroMed and Cure Medical. This information will be provided by PatientPoint, a leader in point-of-care patient and physician engagement solutions.  Participating offices in the PatientPoint Urology Exam Room Network will be able to offer patients comprehensive health information on catheterization and incontinence.

“There is a great need for education and quality assurance when it comes to catheterization, and there are a large number of urology patients requiring catheters,” said John Anderson, president and CEO of Cure Medical. “Cure Medical is pleased to be part of the PatientPoint program to help end users get the high quality urologic product they need as easily as possible. PatientPoint is another way Cure Medical can reach our customers who need these products to live long, healthy lives.”

“Ongoing education and dedicated patient support are keystones of the overall commitment that UroMed makes to customer care,” said Lisa Wells, director of marketing for UroMed. “We recognize PatientPoint as a premier provider and developer of patient education, and we are thrilled to help provide these new educational resources within their network. PatientPoint is the only company which can help us advance our messages in the privacy of the exam room every day to educate catheter users in urology offices nationwide.”

“UroMed is the first home medical equipment company to sponsor the PatientPoint network as a way to better educate and serve their customers in urology exam rooms,” said Linda Ruschau, executive vice president, client solutions at PatientPoint. “PatientPoint urologists see approximately 2.4 million patients annually, and we are confident that PatientPoint will help UroMed/Cure Medical address their customers’ needs. We are proud of this new partnership and look forward to mutual success.”

LASCI Reaches 10,000 Fans!

We couldn’t have done it without you!

UroMed’s motivational program hit a major milestone this week! Life After Spinal Cord Injury (LASCI) reached 10,000 fans on Facebook! LASCI is the second largest Spinal Cord Injury social media page in the world. The largest being the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation which has been on Facebook since 2007 — LASCI is only 18 months old! And LASCI is completely volunteer run with many UroMed employees serving as peer counselors.

LASCI was started on Valentine’s Day 2011 by UroMed founder, Bert Burns. When Bert was only 20 years old and a college intramural sportsman, he was hit by a drunk driver. The force of the impact threw Bert from the car. He broke his neck at C6 and C7, and learned he would have to face life as a quadriplegic. Bert spent the next six months in rehab, convinced his life was over.

Eric Kolar pays it forward everyday at UroMed as he assists other customers with SCI.

Bert isn’t the only one who helps others. Virginia Branch Manager, Eric Kolar pays it forward everyday as a peer counselor on LASCI. Read Eric’s story here.

A recreation therapist at Bert’s rehab hospital approached him to talk about wheelchair sports, but Bert initally showed little interest. A year later, the therapist tried again by sharing his excitement for quad rugby. Bert decided to give it a try, never knowing the dramatic, positive impact that wheelchair sports would have on his life. Bert went on to become a Paralympian and then founded UroMed.

Today, Bert devotes considerable time as a motivational speaker for youth with disabilities, rehabilitation programs, medical education seminars and other community events. Bert strives to reach out to others through public speaking because, more than anything, he wants to give other people in wheelchairs the same encouragement that he has received.

Bert says, “I hope to convince patients in wheelchairs that they can still do all the things they want to do and more. They will just have to do them differently.”

While presenting, Bert inspires others by sharing his story of winning a Gold Medal in the 1992 Paralympics and how he became a successful entrepreneur. He also gives his perspective on:

  • Work/School
  • Dating
  • Sexuality
  • Marriage
  • Children
  • Sports
  • Bladder/Bowel Management

When you look at his achievements, it’s hard to believe that Bert was once in complete despair, and ready to give up on life. With his family, business, sports achievements and positive outlook, it’s easy to see how Bert has found ‘Life After Spinal Cord Injury’.

If you’d like to attend one of Bert’s upcoming engagements, please look at the events listed on our Facebook page. And feel free to contact us to invite Bert to participate in your program. Have a personal message for Bert? Click here to send him a note.
