Enteral nutrition support refers to the delivery of nutrition either orally or by tube into the gastrointestinal tract.  It is indicated in patients who are either not safe, or unable to meet their nutritional requirements orally. Enteral nutrition and oral nutrition support can successfully be undertaken in the comfort of a patient's home. Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) is usually long term (greater than 30 days)

This type of feeding method is required in those with swallowing difficulties (i.e. patients with stroke, MS, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's Disease) or head and neck cancer, and patients who are unable to meet their nutrition and energy requirements through their usual diet..
